USA also faired well, delivering more total viewers than any cable network -- basic or pay -- in cable history. Outside CableU's Top 30, ABC Family and Soapnet broke records. Blog: Outlook for MIPCOM: Sunny and warm with a chance of business
» The last year in TV distribution has been somewhat challenging. One year ago at MIPCOM 2008 the grumblings about the worldwide economic downturn were heard in just about every meeting in and around the Palais Convention Centre. Since then, distributors have shed business interests and shaved staff numbers either in preventative measures or as a result of falling way short of projected sales goals. Programs have been sold in high volume, but the per-hour fees dropped just about everywhere. Good time to be in the business of selling completed programming, bad time to be dependent on original commissions where budgets have gone from slim to none.
